Thru the Lens: Sunset in Canoa
Canoa is a chilled out surfing town about 7 hours west of Quito. It’s a great place to relax, surf, learn Spanish, do some yoga, and lay in a hammock. There is a bit of nightlife on weekends, but nothing compared to its more famous neighbor to the south, Montanita. There isn’t a lot to do in Canoa, but that’s probably what makes it so great!
Practical Info There are no ATM’s in Canoa, the closest ones are 20 minutes away by bus. Dorm beds right on the beach start at $6 (Hostel Cocoloco). One of the cheapest places to eat in town is Jharlene’s (breakfast $2, lunch $2.5). The best surf boards for hire are at the internet cafe, $8/day.
