Thru the Lens: Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is one of my most favourite cities in the world. For a city of only 850,000 it’s got all the energy and amenities of a city many times larger like New York or Paris. From a never-ending selection of cafes, bars, and and restaurants to the red light district to high end shopping, this city has got it all. But like any big city, Amsterdam means different things to different people.

For me, it’s one of the most livable cities in Europe with a vibrant culture, great public transport, and an amazing bicycle culture. It also doesn’t hurt that I know a few people who live there 🙂 And for better or worse, almost everyone speaks English so you can easily get by without knowing any Dutch.

Practical Info Amsterdam is extremely well connected to the rest of Europe and the world via plane (Schipol Airport /AMS) and train. There are direct hi speed rail links to many cities in neighbouring countries. For public transport timetables, go to 9292ov.nl/en.
