Thru The Lens: King’s Day in Amsterdam

The biggest street party of year in the Netherlands took place this past Saturday in honour of the new Dutch king’s birthday. King’s Day (formerly Queen’s Day) started back in 1885 to commemorate the then queen’s birthday. Since that time the celebration has grown bigger and bigger and in its present form is a massive orange-loving party and market in the streets. DJs, bands, beers, boats, people and orange take over the streets and canals of Amsterdam.
