Thru the Lens: Petra

Jordan’s famed UNESCO World Heritage site Petra is the stuff that dreams are made of.

The Siq

The Siq. Sorry, no rock climbing allowed here.

Emerging from the Siq, a natural valley carved into the mountainous landscape, and gazing upon the 40 meter high Treasury is a truly special moment that is hard to express in words, let alone images. It’s a moment of awe and amazement. That hundreds of years ago people were able to carve such monumental structures into mountains without the aid of any modern machinery is truly an achievement worthy of historical acclaim.

That claim to fame was heightened a few years ago when Petra was included in the New 7 Wonders of the World list. And of course, a cameo in the Indiana Jones movie franchise didn’t hurt either.

These days Petra is as popular as ever with tourists from all over the world. Perhaps after browsing these photos you’ll be strolling down the Siq and stopping to take a few pics in front of the Treasury too?

But until that day comes… here’s a taste of what awaits you in Petra!
